Skin Benefits of Pumpkin

Pumpkin is a natural exfoliant, containing exfoliating fruit enzymes and AHA’s (alpha hydroxy acids), increasing cell turnover. Pumpkin is gentle enough to use on all skin types.

Pumpkin is a natural antioxidant, containing Vitamins A and C, softening the skin and protecting the skin from free radical damage. Vitamin C stimulates collagen and brightens the skin, reducing the appearance of age spots. Vitamin A is good for both aging and acneic skin – promoting exfoliation and improving skin tone and texture.

Pumpkin contains Zinc and Vitamin K, which both have anti-inflammatory properties – soothing skin and reducing redness. Zinc balances and heals acneic skin. Pumpkin also contains Vitamin E and Essential Fatty Acids which repair and balance skin barrier.

Not All Pumpkin Products are Created Equal

Professional grade peels contain high-strength active ingredients, targeted to address skin concerns, specifically formulated for the skin. Professional strength pumpkin peels usually contain one or more additional exfoliating agents – commonly lactic acid, glycolic acid, or mandelic acid. The Pumpkin Enzyme Peel that I use is gentle yet effective, containing all of those AHA's plus pumpkin enzymes. Professional peels should only be applied by licensed and chemical peel certified estheticians.

Most at-home DIY pumpkin puree masks are not safe for the face! Canned pumpkin contains preservatives – free radicals that damage healthy cells. With pumpkin season approaching, you could puree a fresh, organic pumpkin, and add a couple tablespoons of Raw Organic Colorado Honey, for a refreshing at-home treatment. Do not add eggs (bacteria!), apple cider vinegar or lemon juice (pH is too low, strips skin), coconut or olive oil (clogs pores), or any other “creative” ingredients unlicensed professionals and blogs are suggesting.
